ePIPE Essential to Historical Restoration in Barcelona, Spain

Spain Restoration of the Mercado del Born began in 2006. Discoveries made during the restoration enhanced the historical value of the site when very well preserved remains of the city dating back to the 17th century were found. The Mercado del Born produced one of the largest historical time deposits in Spain. Remains of fishermen's houses, stables and even a blacksmith shop were found on the site.

The Mercado del Borne structure covering the site was constructed of architectural iron. The architectural support columns served a dual purpose, to support the roof structure and to act as roof drains. One major challenge facing the restoration team was to preserve these essential dual purpose columns. Standing 45 feet tall and 8" in diameter, these columns had to be restored "in- place".

Spain The solution was provided by ePIPE Espana. This past summer while in Spain, Mr. Gillanders, CEO of ACE DuraFlo, worked alongside the ACE DuraFlo Espana team and helped develop a restoration plan. That plan was recently carried out with completion of the restoration of these essential structural columns, helping to preserve one of Barcelona's finest historically significant buildings - the Mercado del Born.
